Gozo and its beautiful beaches

San Blas Bay
I have been living on the Island of Gozo for my whole life.  I have visited many places but still, I am deeply in love with Gozo as when I come back I feel at peace.  I have to say that the perfect place that puts that whole family at peace is Ramla Bay.  I can watch my kids playing in the sand building castles or digging holes.  My husband has a nice swim in the crystal clear water and I feel at rest.  I love to take some fresh fruit with me and the kids always devour what ever I bring along.  And when the kids are occupied playing in the sand me and my husband love to play a bit of beach tennis.  That's my favourite place together with San Blas Bay which is just a short walk from my house. It is steep to get there but worth the walk. If you don't want to walk, there is also a Jeep service to take you down or up the hill for a couple of Euros.

Although Gozo is a small island its coast changes at every corner and this diversity makes it more attractive.  The fact that within a few minutes you go from one spectacular scene to an other is fascinating to me. When I go abroad it is like a never ending journey to go from one place to another, especially when you have 2 kids on the back seat repeating the same 4 words, "Are we there yet?" every 2 minutes.  Here in Gozo that question never pops up :) Phew!

Gozo and its traditional recepies

I love cooking, and people who know me realize that it is one of my passions.  I come from a family of cooks.  My grandfather Joseph Farrugia was an excellent cook and was also an entrepreneur.  He was the first person in Gozo to sell our traditional and most famous pastizzi.  These are pastries filled with either ricotta cheese or with peas.  He used to bake them early in the morning and then sell them out in the streets of Victoria.  Now a days you will find a snack bar in every corner of Victoria selling these delicious pastries, but about 45 years ago you would have found my grandfather together with my mum going up the main streets of Victoria with huge trays selling these savoury pastries.

Well, my mum took after her dad and also my brother who is a chef, so I might say that cooking runs in the blood of my family.  Since I was a child, I used to help my mum in our restaurant in Victoria and by the age of 8 years I prepared the dough for the pizza, for the savoury pies and the dough for my mum's famous lemon merangue and her mouth watering apple pies.  By the age of 15 I worked in my family's restaurant as the Pizzaiola, making hundred's of pizzas weekly. No joke!

Now I occasionally go and help out my mum at the restaurant but at home it is my pleasure to cook and organise dinners!  Last dinner I organised was for a group of Australians from Tazmania who spent a whole month in Ta' Karmena Maisonette and before they left I made a dinner for them.  They were a really sweet group and I hope to see them again in the future!

Living in Gozo!

I have been living in Gozo for all my life, practically 30 years.  We have everything  in our small islands and everything is just a few minutes away.  Is it a shop or a red sandy beach or a beautiful sunset. Well it just takes a few minutes to reach these places and enjoy the beauty of nature.  One of the islands charms is the local people and its villages full of charm.  Its a must to spend some time in village walking around the narrow streets and enjoying the landscape and the architecture especially the old farmhouses.  If one wants to experience Gozo in its full splendor and its reality then an other option when visiting our Island is to rent out a beautifully converted farmhouse in these villages close to the people who are always ready to help with a smile!
